Cub Scout Ranks
From kindergarten through fifth grade, Cub Scouts progress through ranks designed for every stage of childhood. Each level builds new skills, confidence, and friendships.
Lion
Kindergarten · Ages 5–6
The Lion program introduces families to Scouting through fun, age-appropriate adventures. With a parent or guardian by their side, Lion Cubs explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and build confidence in a welcoming, playful environment.
Tiger
1st Grade · Ages 6–7
Tiger Cubs work alongside an adult partner to earn their first adventures. Through hands-on activities and outdoor exploration, they begin developing leadership, citizenship, and personal fitness habits that last a lifetime.
Wolf
2nd Grade · Ages 7–8
Wolf Scouts dive deeper into camping skills, community service, and character development while building strong friendships along the way.
Bear
3rd Grade · Ages 8–9
Bear Scouts take on bigger challenges, from whittling and knots to outdoor cooking and hiking. The program emphasizes teamwork, self-reliance, and doing your best while earning recognition for new achievements.
Webelos
4th Grade · Ages 9–11
Webelos (We’ll Be Loyal Scouts) begin transitioning from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA. They learn to build a fire, practice knife skills, and start taking on leadership roles within their den.
Arrow of Light
5th Grade · Age 10–11
The highest rank in Cub Scouting, Arrow of Light prepares Scouts to cross over into a Scouts BSA troop. Scouts complete outdoor challenges and demonstrate the readiness for the next adventure.
